Zach Blurton Sweeps The Wheatshocker Nationals

The Ellis County fair got off to quite the start this past weekend, as the United Rebel Sprint Car Series clashed with the IMCA classes at RPM, to put on a two day show. Saturday night featured Blaine Walt in a sport mod, BJ Rogers in a hobby stock, Toby Schwien in a sport compact, and Zach Blurton in a sprint car all visiting victory lane. Sunday night featured Tanner Black in a modified, Tathan Burkhart in a stock car and Zach Blurton in a sprint car all visiting victory lane. SATURDAY NIGHT: (Sprints, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, Sport Compacts) SPRINTS: (Two eight lap heat races, twenty lap feature) Steven Richardson and Bob Schaeffer started the first heat race from the front row. Richardson took an early lead in the heat race, within the opening laps Chad Salem and Schaeffer both spun in turns one and two but were able to refire without a caution. On lap four Zach Blurton took control of the heat race and did not look back. Zach Blurton won the heat race, Steven Richardson finished second, Ty Williams third, Jon Freeman fourth, Bob Schaeffer fifth and Chad Salem sixth. Jeremy Huish and Luke Cranston started the second heat race from the front row. Cranston took an early lead, and led wire to wire. Luke Cranston won the heat race, Jeremy Huish finished second, Jed Werner third, Jake Martens fourth, and Brandy Jones fifth. Ty Williams and Steven Richardson made up the front row of the feature. Ty Williams gained the early lead, with Richardson, Martens and Huish chasing. After a few laps Steven Richardson was able to gain the lead. Richardson would hold a lead for a while, meanwhile Jake Martens and Zach Blurton were both making moves to the front. Martens would get up to third, and Zach Blurton got up to second. On the final lap Blurton made his move to pick up Saturday's feature win. Steven Richardson finished second, third was Jake Martens, fourth was Ty Williams, and Luke Cranston rounded out the top-five. Picking up hard charger was Jake Martens who finished third, after starting eighth. Weber gained the early advantage and led the heat wire to wire. Adam Weber won the heat race, Josh Barnhart finished second, Luke Stallbaumer third, Blaine Walt fourth and Kam Gruber fifth. Tracy Holloway and Brett Berry started the second heat race from the front row. Berry gained an early advantage and never looked back. Brett Berry won the heat race, Tracy Holloway finished second, Tyler Watts third, Brianna Maughlin fourth and Tony Steenson fifth. Garrett Kuhlmann and Brian May started the third heat race from the front row. Brian May gained the early lead, with Jimmy Brozek quickly getting to second. Brozek would continue to chase May, caution came out for a problem with the Kuhlmann machine, and the field would restart. Brian May held on off the restart to pick up the heat race win. Jimmy Brozek finished second, Jacey Archer third, Thane Beckman fourth and Sage Dinkel fifth. Brianna Maughlin and Brian May started the feature on the front row. The initial start was waved off as Tyler Watts got too high in turn one and brought out the yellow. An original restart would occur, May and Luke Stallbaumer would make it three wide on the start with Maughlin but Maughlin was able to hold the lead. Stallbaumer would make a run on the bottom but caution would come out after a few laps. Maughlin brought the field to a restart and Stallbaumer would try the bottom again, caution would come out as Tony Steenson, Jacey Archer and Tim Stallbaumer would get tangled in turn one, and Brett Berry was stopped against the frontstretch wall. That caution ended the night for several drivers. Luke Stallbaumer brought the field to a restart and gained a few car length advantage over Tyler Watts. Caution would come out for a third time, Stallbaumer brought the field back to another restart, and was able to gain a lead. Stallbaumer led a few more laps, but the famed 14W of Blaine Walt was on the charge, Blaine Walt was able to get by Stallbaumer and went on to win the feature. Second was Luke Stallbaumer, third was Tracy Holloway, fourth Josh Barnhart and rounding out the top five was Jimmy Brozek. (DNF) 2K-Garrett Kuhlmann[1] HOBBY STOCKS: (Three eight lap heat races, twenty lap feature) Cole Pfeifer and BJ Rogers started the first heat race from the front row, Rogers gained the early lead. Daniel Irwin quickly found second, and on the third lap Morgan Olmstead got to third place. BJ Rogers led the heat wire to wire to pick up the win, second went to Daniel Irwin, third to Morgan Olmstead, fourth to Dalton Bell and Cole Pfeifer rounded out the top-five. Manuel Salazar and Hayden Gottstine started the second heat race from the front row, Salazar gained the early lead. Meanwhile Lyle Russell had started a charge towards the front, Salazar would hold the lead until the very end, and Lyle Russell got the win at the line. Second went to Manuel Salazar, third to Brandon Naasz, fourth to Derick Coomes and Jonathan Saliba took home fifth. BJ Rogers and Derick Coomes started the feature on the front row. BJ Rogers took the early lead, and would enter a side by side battle with Daniel Irwin. Lyle Russell would get by Irwin a few laps in, and start a heck of a battle with Rogers. The front four cars would break away from the field, led by Rogers. Lyle Russell would get to Rogers's door a couple times but could not make the pass happen. Caution came out for CJ Bollig, and the field would restart. Rogers held the lead off the restart, but quickly Lyle Russell would put the pressure back on. The field would slow for a spin in turns three and four, and would have to restart again. Rogers once again held the lead off the restart, and Russell would pull up to his back bumper. A third caution would come out as Salazar was pointing the wrong way on the frontstretch, and Rogers led the field to another restart. Lyle Russell tried the top, middle and bottom like he did throughout the feature, but nothing worked and BJ Rogers picked up the feature win. Second went to Lyle Russell, third to Nick Ronnebaum, fourth to Morgan Olmstead and Brooke Russell got fifth. Hard charger on the event was CJ Bollig who picked up twelve spots going from nineteenth to seventh. Schwien would get the lead momentarily, and caution came out. On the restart Trumbo regained the lead, but Schwien was able to get by late to pick up the heat race win. Madison Reed and Dave Kappel formed the front row of the second heat race. Reed took the early lead, and Kappel started working the bottom, trying to find a way around. With two laps to go Remington Cox headed to the infield, the field kept going. Madison Reed won the heat race, David Kappel finished second, third went to Logan Casper, fourth to Kyle Mortensen, and fifth went to Kiowa Higdon. Logan Casper and Madison Reed began the feature on the front row. Logan Casper led the first lap, but Toby Schwien started making a run on the bottom, Casper held on to lead the second lap, and on lap three those two would battle side by side, and Gage Porter would get to second after Schwien took the lead from Casper. Kyle Mortensen and Madison Reed would start battling side by side later on. Caution came out and the field would have to restart, with a top five of Toby Schwien, Gage Porter, Madison Reed, Logan Casper and Kyle Mortensen. Schwien would bring the field to the restart, and Madison Reed slipped back right away, as Porter, Trumbo, Mortensen and Kappel all got by. Schwien would start to pull away from Porter to solidify his lead. Ted Trumbo and Kyle Mortensen would battle side by side for the third position. Caution would come out for a second time, and Schwien would bring the field to another restart. Toby Schwien led the remainder of the feature to pick up the win, second went to Ted Trumbo, third to Kyle Mortensen, fourth to Gage Porter, and fifth was David Kappel. (DNF) 33X-Remington Cox[4] SUNDAY NIGHT: (Sprints, Stock Cars, Modifieds) SPRINTS: (Two eight lap heat races, twenty lap feature) Jack Potter and Jeremy Huish started the first heat race from the front row, and Huish got the early lead. Huish led every lap of the heat race to win it. Second was Steven Richardson, third was Jake Martens, fourth was Jon Freeman and fifth went to Jack Potter. Ty Williams and Zach Blurton started the second heat race from the front row. Ty Williams gained the early lead, and led the majority. Blurton tried throwing a couple sliders, but was unable to complete any passes on Williams. Ty Williams won the heat race, Zach Blurton was second, third went to Luke Cranston, fourth to Tyler Knight, and fifth was Jed Werner. Zach Blurton and Steven Richardson started the feature from the front row. Zach Blurton gained the early advantage. Richardson started working the bottom of the track quickly, trying to find a way to close in on a very fast Blurton. Blurton quickly found lapped traffic, but not even traffic could slow down Blurton during his dominating performance. Zach Blurton led every lap en route to the weekend sweep at RPM. Steven Richardson finished second, third was Jeremy Huish, fourth went to Ty Williams and fifth was Tyler Knight. Picking up hard charger were both Jack Potter and Bob Schaeffer who both picked up three spots each. Pfeifer got the early advantage, on the second lap Garrett Hager went for a spin in turn two, but kept rolling without a caution. With two laps to go, Troy Burkhart headed for the pits. Kyle Pfeifer went on to win the heat race, Tathan Burkhart finished second, Travis Baird got third, fourth went to Jason Rogers, and fifth went to Garrett Hager. Garrett Hager and Tathan Burkhart started the feature from the front row. Tathan Burkhart grabbed the early lead from Hager and took off running. Hager, Pfeifer, Rogers and Troy Burkhart all would fight for second after a couple laps, Troy Burkhart would prevail to grab the second position, and Pfeifer fell into the third position. Pfeifer would start to look for a way around Troy Burkhart, and the two would battle closely. Pfeifer would eventually get the second position from Troy Burkhart but was unable to catch Tathan Burkhart. Tathan Burkhart picked up the feature win, giving him a $1400 payday, plus an invite to the Boone Super Nationals! Kyle Pfeifer finished second, third went to Troy Burkhart, fourth to Garrett Hager, fifth was Jason Rogers, and Travis Baird finished sixth. Hard chargers in the event were Kyle Pfeifer and Troy Burkhart who both picked up three spots each. Bowers took the initial lead, and would start to pull away from Black. On lap three caution would come out for a spinning Jason Ward. On the restart Bowers would hold the lead, and led the remainder. Steven Bowers picked up the heat race win, Tanner Black finished second, third was Cody Gearhart, fourth was Kyle Rohleder, and Greg Gustus rounded out the top-five. Clay Money and Daniel Gottschalk started heat race two from the front row. Gottschalk got to the early lead and led lap one. But Clay Money stormed by to lead the second lap and the remainder of the heat race. Clay Money won the second heat race, Daniel Gottschalk got second, third went to Dylan Sherfick, fourth to Clay Sellard, and fifth to Shaylon Holloway. Tanner Black and Dylan Sherfick started the feature on the front row. On the initial start the front row stayed side by side for half of a lap, and then Black got to the lead. Daniel Gottschalk ran third and was looking for more. Caution would come out as Kaid Calhoon went for a spin in turn three. Tanner Black would bring the field to a restart. Tanner Black would keep rolling well, and led the remainder of the feature, to pick up an invite to the Super Nationals as well as a $1200 payday. Daniel Gottschalk finished second, Steven Bowers third, fourth was Clay Sellard, and fifth was Jake Nightingale. Picking up hard charger was Jake Nightingale who went from starting twelfth to finishing fifth.
