Morgan Olmstead, Gage Porter, Delbert Smith and Ty Williams all visited victory lane during the season opener at the Thomas County Speedway. A total of fifty-nine race teams checked into the Thomas County Speedway in Colby, Kansas for their first night of action, which featured the High Plains DirtCar Late Model Series, the United Rebel Sprint Series and the IMCA Sport Compacts and Hobby Stocks!

Sport compacts started the program off with two six lap heat races won by Kyle Benoit and Devon Ghumm. Their twelve-lap feature started with a front row of Brock Leibhart and Grant Logue, Leibhart gained an early lead, and a quick caution came out, by lap five Gage Porter started heavily contending for the race lead and by lap eight Porter took control of the race lead. Gage Porter went on to win the feature, second was Brock Leibhart, third was Grant Logue, fourth was Kyle Mortensen and rounding out the top five was the hard charger in the event Ted Trumbo. Other nice runs included Tyson Plumisto up four sports, James Bader and Gage Porter grabbed three spots each.

The hobby stocks were second on the program, Travis Branum and Morgan Olmstead won the two eight lap heat races. The fifteen-lap feature started with a front row of Trent Matson and Travis Branum, quickly Morgan Olmstead got to the lead and despite a couple of cautions, no one could touch Olmstead as he dominated and led the feature wire-to-wire. Bingston Rogers was able to run a clean race and get to second place late in the event but did not have enough time to track down Olmstead. Third place was Trent Matson the pole-sitter, fourth was Travis Branum the second-place starter, and rounding out the top five was Jamie Hart who was the hard charger with ten spots gained. Other nice runs included Devon Ghumm up eight spots, Bingston Rogers and Cole Schulte up four spots each.

The United Rebel Sprint Series were third on the program, they ran two eight lap heat races with Taylor Velasquez and Ty Williams picking up wins. The twenty lap feature event started with a front row of Ty Williams and Taylor Velasquez, Ty Williams gained the early lead and never looked back as he easily navigated the Thomas County Speedway racing surface to pick up the race win. Second was Jake Martens, third was Jeremy Huish, fourth was Steven Richardson and fifth was Johnny Boos. Jake Martens and Steven Richardson were the hard chargers with four spots gained.

The late models were fourth on the program, they ran three eight lap heat races won by Delbert Smith, Josh Leonard and Mike Petersilie. The twenty-five-lap feature started with a front row of Delbert Smith and Mike Petersilie and chaos ensued right away as Petersilie could not get going and spun and collected half of the field. The second attempt did not go well either as Braxton Berry, Brianna Maughlin and Jeff Meeker all were involved in a wreck and all retired early from the race. The third time was the charm as Delbert Smith led the field to a green flag run and led the feature wire-to-wire to pick up the win. Justin Bussell made some moves to get into the top-five but fifth was the highest the Imperial, Nebraska wheelman was able to manage. Josh Leonard who ran quick lap times all night just did not have quite enough to catch Delbert Smith. Dusty Leonard out of Marysville grabbed third place, Dan Smith from Beloit was fourth. Hard charger in the event was Kenny Backstrand who grabbed five spots, Colby’s Braxton Berry grabbed four spots, and IMCA stock car regulars Jason Rogers and Troy Burkhart both wheeled their late models to gain two spots.
