Thomas County Speedway
By: Sheldon Wickwar
The Dirt Crown Series finished up their Western Kansas swing at the Thomas County Speedway in Colby on Friday Night, visiting victory lane were Troy Burkhart in the stock car class, Kyle Rohleder in the modified class and Blaine Walt in the sport mod class.
The sport mods started the night off in Colby with three eight-lap heat races won by Josh Barnhart, Blaine Walt and Kam Gruber. The twenty-lap feature event started with a front row of Aiden Miller and Blaine Walt. Miller held an early lead, but it did not take very long for the veteran driver Blaine Walt to take the race lead. Once Walt held the lead, he was able to survive the cautions and restarts to collect career win one hundred. Second was Josh Barnhart, third was Adam Weber, fourth was Aiden Miller and fifth was Tyler Watts. Hard charger in the event was Joseph Cooper who gained nine spots, other nice runs included Adam Weber up seven spots, Brendyn Nordyke and Tyler Beaman both grabbed four spots each.
The modifieds ran second on the night, they ran three eight-lap heat races won by Tony Acierno, Justin Bussell and Brett Berry. Their twenty-lap feature event started with a front row of Dakota Sproul and Tony Acierno. Dakota Sproul held an early lead and worked his way through lapped traffic. Later on, in the feature Brett Berry pulled a slider to take the lead over Sproul and chaos ensued in turns one and two as Berry and Sproul made heavy contact ending both nights. After the two front-runners wrecked, Jordan Grabouski and Kyle Rohleder found themself at the front of the field and raced closely to the end of the race, on the final corner a last resort slider move, and crossover broke out between the duo with Kyle Rohleder grabbing the race win at the line by a close margin. Second was Jordan Grabouski, third was Dylan Sherfick, fourth was Eddie Belec, and fifth was Tony Acierno. Hard charger in the event was Grabouski who gained ten spots, other nice runs included Eddie Belec, Don Geist and Dave Pedersen all up seven spots each, and Drew Miller gained six spots.
The stock cars closed out the night as the main attraction, they ran four eight-lap heat races won by Angel Munoz, Casey Woken, Jeff Ware and Kyle Pfeifer. They ran a b-feature for the final transfers that saw Mark Leiting win. Their thirty-lap feature event started with a front row of Doug Holzmeister and Taylor Huss. Casey Woken found himself in the lead in the early portions of the race, he would hold the lead until the halfway point where something broke in the front end and he was forced to retire from the race. That handed the race lead over to Troy Burkhart who ran a very good race to hold off charges from Angel Munoz, Jordan Grabouski and Tathan Burkhart. Troy entered lapped traffic shortly after the restart and made all of the right moves to find himself in a familiar spot in victory lane in Colby. Troy picked up his fourth win of the season, second was Angel Munoz, third was Jordan Grabouski, fourth was Tathan Burkhart and fifth was Kyle Pfeifer. Hard chargers in the event were Jordan Grabouski and Austin Brauner who both grabbed thirteen spots each, other nice runs included Mark Leiting up twelve spots, Austin Carter up eleven spots, Kyle Clough up eight spots, Jeff Ware up six spots, and Troy Burkhart and Kyle Pfeifer both grabbed five spots each.
