Sproul wins Season Opener

05/01/2022 Dakota Sproul was on the prowl last night as he picked up a feature win for the modifieds, he was joined in victory lane by Dylan Pfeifer and Shane Pfeifer in the cruisers, Gratton Dalton in the sport compacts. Zach Olmstead in the hobby stocks, Blaine Walt in the sport mods and Tathan Burkhart in the stock cars! Sixty-nine race teams checked in for the opening night of the points season. CRUISERS: (One six lap heat race, one twelve lap feature) The heat race started with a front row of Jeremiah Bunch and Dylan Pfeifer. Bunch got out to an early lead, as Woods, Pfeifer and Cox would all battle three wide through the first set of corners, Cox would go for a spin in three and four but got rolling again. Bunch would end up pulling away and run away with the heat race victory. Jeremiah Bunch and Shaun Woods started on the front row of the feature. Bunch led early, with the taxi of Woods chasing, meanwhile the squad car was trying to make it a three car battle. Bunch would keep leading for several laps, before losing the motor in the closing laps. The squad car of Dylan and Shane Pfeifer were able to take the victory. Hard charger were the Pfeifer squad car boys as they picked up two spots. A Feature 1 (12 Laps): 1. 10 32-Dylan Pfeifer[3]; 2. 33X-Skip Cox[4]; 3. (DNF) 250-Jeremiah Bunch[1]; 4. (DQ) 666-Shaun Woods[2] Heat 1 (6 Laps): 1. 250-Jeremiah Bunch[1]; 2. 666-Shaun Woods[4]; 3. 10 32-Dylan Pfeifer[2]; 4. 33X-Skip Cox[3] SPORT COMPACTS: (Two six lap heat races, one fifteen lap feature) The first heat featured a front row of Gratton Dalton and Madison Reed, Dalton and Reed battled side by side to start, but Reed would gain the advantage. The field would get pretty strung out and single file and Reed would lead the remainder to win the first heat race. The second heat race featured a front row of Ted Trumbo and Kyle Mortensen, Trumbo would grab an early lead, and the field would go single file, Trumbo led wire to wire to pick up the second heat race win. The feature had a front row of Kiowa Higdon and Gratton Dalton. Dalton would grab the lead in turn one, and Higdon would get loose, and slide up into Ted Trumbo which allowed Madison Reed to get by both of them. Dalton would continue to lead, and at the halfway point the top five was Dalton, Reed, Higdon, Logan Casper and Trumbo. Reed would get around Dalton with a few laps left to go. Coming to the checkered flag, Reed would lose his motor, and Dalton beat him to the line to capture the feature win. Dalton picked up a third overall feature win on the year, Reed second, Higdon third, Casper fourth, and Trumbo fifth. Hard chargers were Madison Reed and Logan Casper who both picked up three spots each. T21-Ted Trumbo[1]; 2. 03K-Kyle Mortensen[2]; 3. 17-Kiowa Higdon[4]; 4. 16C-Connor Schwien[5]; 5. 69G-Gage Porter[6]; 6. 54M-Brian Meis[3] HOBBY STOCKS: (Three eight lap heat races, one twenty lap feature) The first heat race featured a front row of Joel Dix and BJ Rogers. Nicholas Ronnebaum gained the early lead, as he was shot out of a cannon on the initial start. Joel Dix would fade early, and drop to the back. Ronnebaum would end up leading wire to wire to pick up the heat race win, Brady Bencken made his way to second and third went to James Hart. The second heat race featured a front row of Morgan Olmstead and Jonathan Saliba. Morgan Olmstead would gain the early lead, and would lead wire to wire. Second went to Zach Olmstead and third went to Saliba. The third heat race featured a front row of Brooke Russell and Drew Barry. Barry would grab the early lead, and he would lead wire to wire to pick up the win in heat race number three. Second went to Russell and third went to Mitchell Fischer. The feature started with a front row of Jonathan Saliba and Drew Barry. Saliba led early but quickly out of turn two Barry got by to take the lead. Saliba started dropping as Lyle Russell, Nicholas Ronnebaum, and Zach Olmstead all got by him. Ronnebaum would lose third to Olmstead as Ronnebaum nearly spun out trying to avoid a slower car. Olmstead would then start battling Russell side by side for second. Russell took a peek under Barry but couldn't go anywhere and that allowed Olmstead to get by Russell for second. Olmstead would then start battling Barry for the lead. In a mess of lapped traffic, Barry would lose the lead to Olmstead. Caution would come out for debris on the frontstretch. Joel Dix and Blake Holmes would both retire from the race. Olmstead would lead the field back to the restart, caution would come back out three laps later as Saliba was turned around in turn four. The field would restart, and the caution would fly again as Paxton Stubbs went around in turn one, as a result of the field stacking up. Zach Olmstead would bring the field back to green and lead the remainder to pick up the win. Second went to Lyle Russell, third went to Nicholas Ronnebaum, fourth to Brady Bencken, and fifth to Drew Barry. Hard charger was CJ Bollig who picked up eight spots going from fourteenth to sixth place. (DNF) 311X-Austin Woods[7] SPORT MODS: (One eight lap heat race, one fifteen lap feature) The heat race featured a front row of Tony Steenson and Blaine Walt. Walt jumped out to an early lead, Taos Leignton would spin in turn one but got it going again without bringing out a caution. Walt would lead wire to wire, caution came out on the final lap as Brianna Maughlin went off track just before turn three. Walt would restart the field and go on to win the heat race. Kam Gruber finished second, and third went to Tyler Watts. The feature started with a front row of Blaine Walt and Tyler Watts. Walt would grab the initial lead despite a thrilling side by side battle with Tyler Watts. Gruber would get by Watts for second and then the caution would come out for a flashlight sitting in turns one and two. Walt would bring the field to a restart, and would start to build a lead over second place running Watts. Walt would continue building that lead, and led wire to wire to pick up the feature win. Watts finished second, Maughlin third, Steenson fourth and Gruber fifth. By virtue of picking up six spots, Briann Maughlin was the hard charger. Rogers held an early lead, but Pfeifer was chasing him down. Rogers would end up leading wire to wire to pick up the heat race win. Pfeifer finished second, and Mike Petersilie finished third. The feature started with a front row of Jason Rogers and Tathan Burkhart. Tathan Burkhart grabbed the initial lead, and started running away with the feature, the field got strung out, and Burkhart led wire to wire, Troy Burkhart pulled off in the closing laps. Tathan Burkhart won, second went to Jason Rogers, third was Kyle Pfeifer, fourth Mike Petersilie, and Barrett Wagoner rounded out the top five. Tathan Burkhart, Pfiefer, Wagoner all picked up one spot each giving them all hard charger honors. Geist grabbed the early lead and led wire to wire to win the first heat race. Second went to Brett Smith, and third went to Clay Money. The second heat race started with a front row of Dakota Sproul and Rich Tegethoff. Sproul would grab an early lead, as Tegethoff fell back to sixth place. Sproul lead wire to wire to pick up the win in heat race number two. The feature started with a front row of Dakota Sproul and Brett Smith. Sproul gained the initial lead, Caution would come out early for a spin by Bill Albin, the field would restart and Sproul would lead a few more laps, and then caution came out as a car spun in turn three. Sproul would restart the field, and would continue to lead over Money and Sherfick. Dakota Sproul led the remainder to pick up the feature win. Second went to Clay Money, third to Dylan Sherfick, fourth to Kyle Rohleder and fifth went to Mike Petersillie. Hard charger was Tim Watts who went from eleventh to sixth on the night.
