It was an action packed night at the Thomas County Speedway, the drivers brought their a-game, BJ and the crew had the track dialed up nicely. It was fan appreciation night and the racing did not disappoint at all. Seventy-two race teams checked in and the stands were filled with fans, and Mother Nature provided us with perfect racing weather. The sport compacts started the night off, with a six lap heat race, which featured Madison Reed picking up the win, Ted Trumbo was second, and Billy Turner third. Madison Reed led the first six laps of the feature, but on lap seven Ted Trumbo made the outside groove work to get the lead, after a back and forth battle between him and Billy Turner, Trumbo would end up leading the rest of the feature to get the win. Everyone jumped to the outside groove, Billy Turner tried to make it a photo finish but came up just short. Trumbo picked up the win, Turner second, Reed third, Otto Schutte fourth, and Jarrett Marker finished fifth. To begin the night, there was a three way tie for first in points, and with his feature win Trumbo is now one point ahead of Turner. Trumbo said in his post race interview that the outside was not the game plan at all, he had tried it before and it didn't work but it worked this time. Hard charger in the feature was both Turner and Trumbo who picked up two spots each. The sport mods ran two eight lap heat races, Jasen Gray picked up the win in the first one, and the second one went to the always fast Blaine Walt. Speaking of Walt he won yet another thrilling feature, Brianna Maughlin started on the pole, but coming out of turn two on the first lap Jasen Gray was able to get by. On lap number three Maughlin spun out and sent Blaine Walt and Adam Weber off track however they all would continue but the caution did come out. Tyler Watts would get by Gray on lap number six, Watts appeared to be sailing away but a caution on lap eleven changed everything. The restart was a thriller as Walt dived down from the outside of the second row, to try to throw a slider on Watts but Watts wasn't having it. The two of them started running side by side, and that battle would go on for the rest of the feature with the lead changing several times. Watts took the white flag, but Walt got side by side in turn two, and by just three thousandths Walt was able to grab the feature win. Watts finished second, Weber after that early incident rebounded for third, Stallbaumer who picked up a couple feature wins in Salina last weekend finished fourth, and Brendyn Nordyke who graduated college Friday morning, finished fifth. Walt in his interview said that he chose the bottom since Watts was up top, and that it was just good hard racing between the two of them. Blaine Walt is first in points with a six point lead over Adam Weber and Luke Stallbaumer who are tied for second. Stock cars were third in line, they had two eight lap heat races, the first one went to Kyle Clough, and the second one went to Troy Burkhart, both heat races were filled with exciting action. Troy Burkhart would grab an early lead and pull away from the field but a caution on lap eight for Kolby Stegman would bring the field to a restart. They restarted and there was a multi car wreck in turn three, Kyle Pfeifer spun and collected two others. On the restart Burkhart would lead one more lap but then ran off track in turns one and two and that opened the door for Jason Rogers who had been the fastest car on track. Rogers would go on to win, rookie Tathan Burkhart would finish second, Casey Woken third, Jeff Tubbs fourth and Troy Burkhart would rebound for fifth. Hard charger was Jason Rogers who picked up nine spots, rookie Tathan Burkhart picked up six spots, as well as Casey Woken. Your stock car point leader is Jason Rogers who leads by three points over Casey Woken. Hobby Stocks came next, they ran two eight lap heats, Tanner Clough won the first one and Brady Bencken won the second. Tanner Clough started on the pole of the feature, he and Cody Williams ran close to each other for a good portion of the feature. Brady Bencken put on a heck of a show pulling sliders left and right trying to make his way through the field. Coming to halfway BJ Rogers spun in turn four but was able to get fired back up without a caution. Tanner Clough would end up winning the feature by four seconds over Cody Williams, Brady Bencken ended up third, Josh Barnhart fourth, and Jamie Hart finished fifth. Hard charger was Brennen Nech who picked up six spots after starting twelfth. Your hobby stock point leader is Brady Bencken who holds a four point lead over Josh Barnhart. The modifieds ended the night, they ran three heat races, Tim Watts won the first, Dylan Sherfick the second and the third one went to Dominic Ursetta. The feature had wall to wall and wire to wire action all the way through, Brandon Clough and Don Geist would battle early on, by lap three Tim Watts and Dylan Sherfick came into the picture, lap four and five featured a blanket over the top seven cars or so as they all raced close. Dylan Sherfick would grab the lead coming out of turn two. Sherfick would lead the rest of the way, navigating through lapped traffic, to grab the feature win. Clay Money finished second, Tim Watts third, fourth went to Daniel Gottschalk, and Kyle Rohleder who was looking for win number fifty finished fifth. The mods are tied up at the top of the points, Daniel Gottschalk and Dakota Sproul are tied with one hundred and thirteen points, Clay Money is just one point behind in third. Hard chargers were Clay Money and Eddie Belec who both picked up seven spots. Night three of the season provided very exciting racing, the racing seems to be exciting each night. TCS will take a two week break but bring your friends and family out to the speedway on May 21st and May 22nd for a double header! Lastly if you see BJ and the rest of the TCS crew make sure you say thanks and show your appreciation, they are providing a heck of a track, the drivers love it, and I know you fans love it as well!
