RPM Speedway 2021 In Review

2/4/2022 Ahead of tomorrow night's awards banquet at RPM Speedway, let’s take a look back on the 2021 race season. The sport compact championship went to Madison Reed after a very consistent season. Despite not picking up a win on the season, Reed finished top ten in every feature, and top five in all but one feature. Second place was Kiowa Higdon, who had two wins on the season, along with six top five finishes and nine top ten finishes. Gratton Dalton finished third in points, with three top five finishes and eight top ten finishes. Ted Trumbo finished fourth in points with a win on the season, seven top five finishes and eight top ten finishes. Kyle Benoit was fifth in points with two wins, four top five finishes and 6 top ten finishes. Logan Casper was sixth in points with three top five finishes and seven top ten finishes. Daniel Newell finished seventh in points, with one top five finish and five top ten finishes. Gage Porter finished eighth in points, with three top five finishes and seven top ten finishes. Kaishen Brack finished ninth in points, with two top five finishes and six top ten finishes. Kyle Mortensen finished tenth in points, with two top ten finishes on the year. Consistency was key in the compact division and champion Madison Reed was that, along with good seasons at Salina, Colby and Goodland, Reed had a great 2021. Reed also participated in the 2021 Boone Nationals. The sport mod championship went to Blaine Walt, who had a perfect season at the RPM Speedway, winning all eight regular season races to capture the championship. Connor Barnes finished second, in points, with seven top ten finishes and four top five finishes. Tyler Watts finished third, with six top ten finishes and five top five finishes. Brianna Maughlin finished, fourth with four top ten finishes and one top five finish. Chris Vogan finished fifth, with four top ten finishes and two top five finishes. Hunter Vogan finished sixth, with three top ten finishes and one top five finish. Luke Stallbaumer finished seventh, with four top ten finishes and four top five finishes. Brett Berry finished eighth, with four top ten finishes, four top five finishes and he did win the second night of the 2021 Fall Nationals. Adam Weber finished ninth, with four top ten finishes, and three top five finishes. Jacey Archer finished tenth, with two top ten finishes on the year. A dominant season, saw Walt have success at many tracks in Kansas, but Hays, felt like home as he lived in victory lane all season. The hobby stock championship went to a familiar face in Brady Bencken, after a four-win season, also collecting nine top ten finishes and eight top five finishes. Brendon Stigge finished second, with a win, eight top ten finishes and eight top five finishes. Austin Meis finished third with five top ten finishes, and two top five finishes. Daniel Irwin finished fourth with five top ten finishes and four top five finishes. CJ Bollig finished fifth, with six top ten finishes and four top five finishes. Derick Coomes finished sixth, with two top ten finishes. Tyler Heath finished seventh with five top ten finishes and one top five finish. Dan Kruse finished eighth, with one top ten finish. Cody Williams finished ninth, with two wins, two top ten finishes, and two top five finishes. Cole Pfeifer finished tenth, with one top ten finish. Familiar territory for Bencken, who also grabbed the track championship in Colby. The stock car championship was a battle between a rookie and a veteran, and it went to Barrett Wagoner, who won two races, and had six top five finishes, and eight top ten finishes. Tathan Burkhart finished second, with eight top ten finishes, seven top five finishes, and two wins. Travis Baird finished third, with six top ten finishes, five top five finishes, and a win. Troy Burkhart finished fourth, with five top ten finishes, four top five finishes, and a win. Kyle Pfeifer finished fifth, with four top ten finishes, and three top five finishes. Trenton Kleweno finished sixth, with five top ten finishes, and one top five finish. Jason Rogers finished seventh, with five top ten finishes, three top five finishes, and a win. Mike Petersillie finished eighth, with six top ten finishes, and three top five finishes. Colin Heim finished ninth, with four top ten finishes, and three top five finishes. Boone Evans finished tenth, with three top ten finishes, and two top five finishes. The veteran outlasted the rookie, as Barrett Wagoner won the championship. Wagoner also competed in Dodge City, Goodland, Boone, Oberlin and Phillips County. The modified championship went to Daniel Gottschalk, who beat Dylan Sherfick by ONE POINT. Gottschalk recorded eight top ten finishes, six top five finishes and two wins. Dylan Sherfick finished second, with eight top ten finishes, and six top five finishes. Tim Watts finished third, with four top ten finishes, three top five finishes and a win. Rich Tegethoff finished fourth, with three top ten finishes, and a top five finish. Curtis Barnes finished fifth, with six top ten finishes, two top five finishes, and a win. Cody Gearhart finished sixth, with six top ten finishes, and a top five finish. Kyle Rohleder finished seventh, with four top ten finishes, two top five finishes, and a win. Dalton Murphy finished eighth, with one top ten finish. Clay Money finished ninth, with four top ten finishes, and four top five finishes. Jimmy Reeves finished tenth, with two top ten finishes, and a top five finish. By the slimmest of margins, Daniel Gottschalk beat out Dylan Sherfick to pick up the championship. Gottschalk also competed in Colby and Dodge City. The 2022 season in Hays begins on April 2nd for opening night, the track is hoping to add in a cruisers class, as well as welcoming in the mod lite class. Let's go racing folks!!
