05/28/2022 Seventy race teams checked into RPM for another night of racing on the season and on Memorial Day weekend the action was intense. Shaun Woods and Cody Groth won the cruiser feature, Kiowa Higdon the sport compact feature, Nicholas Ronnebaum the hobby stock feature, Troy Burkhart the stock car feature, Blaine Walt the sport mod feature, and Jake Nightingale the modified feature! Cruiser: (One six lap heat race, one twelve lap feature) The heat race started like this, Weston Kraus on the pole, Madelyn Kraus second, Dylan Pfiefer third, Matt Ramsey fourth, Shaun Woods fifth and Sierra Gropp sixth. They finished like this, Shaun Woods first, Weston Kraus second, third to Matt Ramsey, fourth to Madelyn Kraus, fifth to Dylan Pfiefer and sixth to Sierra Gropp. The feature started with a front row of Shaun Woods and Weston Kraus. Woods would gain the initial lead, Pfiefer would get to second place. Madelyn Kraus would go for a spin in turn four but would not bring out caution. Caution would come out as Pfeifer got off track in turn four. The restart would be Woods, Weston Kraus and Matt Ramsey the top three. On the restart Madelyn would spin in turn two but was able to keep going. Weston would go around and bring out the caution and the field would restart. Woods, and Peifer the top two. Peifer would gain the lead out of turn two on the restart. but it three and four Woods, and Pfifer would give each other the door coming to the line. Ramsey would hold the lead momentarily, and Woods would regain the lead. Ramsey would spin on the frontstretch but get back going meanwhile Woods and Pfiefer would battle side by side with plenty of contact. Pfiefer would spin in turn two and Shaun Woods would easily take the feature win. Pfiefer finished second and third to Ramsey. Hard charger in the feature was Shaun Woods, who picked up three spots going from fifth to second. (DNF) 21-Sierra Gropp[6] Sport Compacts: (Two six lap heat races, one fifteen lap feature) The first heat race featured a front row of Kaishen Brack and Remington Cox. Kiowa Higdon would make the initial start a three wide battle, and he would find his way to the lead. Going into the first corner of the second lap, there would be a three wide battle between Gratton Dalton, Remington Cox and Kaishen Brack. Cox would hit the wall and when he came back down he made contact with Brack, Brack's car dug into the turn one corner and started rolling off of turn one. The car rolled several times and came to a rest, Brack was checked out by the EMS crew but was able to walk away from the crash under his own power. That incident ended the heat race for Dalton, Brack and Cox. The restart would have a top three of Higdon, Kyle Mortensen and Madison Reed, Higdon would pull away and lead the remainder and Reed got by Mortensen for second. Mortensen finished third. The second heat race featured a front row of Logan Casper and Ted Trumbo. The front row would battle side by side for the first lap, and on the second lap Trumbo got by Casper to gain the lead. Caution would come out as David Kappel lost a tire in turn two. The restart would have Trumbo, Casper and Connor Schwien as the top three, Gage Porter would quickly get to second on the restart. Then on the final lap of the heat Porter got the lead in turns three and four to grab the heat race win. Second was Ted Trumbo, and third was Connor Schwien. The feature started with a front row of Logan Casper and Ted Trumbo. Trumbo would take an early lead, Kappel and Casper would battle for second. Higdon was running third trying to get to the leaders, with Mortensen hot on his tail. Caution would come out as Conner Schwien and Gratton Dalton got into each other, Schwien had hit the wall, and Dalton had nowhere to go. Trumbo would hold the lead on the restart, and Higdon and Casper would battle for second, Casper would get too high in two and drop several spots. Trumbo would lead several laps, and Higdon would start putting pressure on the high side. At the halfway point the leaders were side by side, and coming out of two Higdon gained the lead. Mortensen would start battling Trumbo for second. Casper would have to pull into the infield in the closing laps as he had a flat tire. Higdon would win the feature, second went to Trumbo and third went to Mortensen. Hard charger in the feature was Gage Porter who picked up five spots, going from ninth to fourth. (DNF) 45-David Kappel[3] Sport Mods: (Two eight lap heat races, one twenty lap feature) The first heat race featured a front row of Garrett Khullmann and Taos Leignton. The field dove into turns one and two and fourth place running Blaine Walt quickly gained control of the heat race, Ahnna Schouten followed suit and got to second place. On lap four Leignton would bring out the caution sending him to the pits for bringing out a caution. Kuhlmann would also head pitside with an issue. The four cars left were Walt, Schouten, Ryan Kirchoff, and Tony Steenson. On the restart Walt would fly into a different area code, while Kirchoff and Steenson would battle four third place. Walt won the heat, Schouten got second, third to Kirchoff and fourth was Steenson. The second heat race featured a front row of Sage Dinkel and Kam Gruber. Gruber would take an initial lead, but Dinkel would spin in turn four, so the field would take another shot at the original restart, with Brianna Maughlin moving up to the front row. Gruber would get the lead off the restart, and Adam Weber would find his way to second place. Later in the heat, Gruber would get in the wall slightly and Weber would take the lead. Weber went on to win the heat race, Gruber held on for second, and Maughlin finished third. The third heat race featured a front row of Jacey Archer and Shawn Ward. Archer would gain the lead, and Watts would get to second, after Ward made contact with the wall. Watts and Archer would get into a side by side battle and on lap three at the flagstand Watts would gain control of the lead. Watts went on to win the heat race, second was Archer, and third went to Slade Mohr. The feature started with a front row of Jacey Archer and Kam Gruber. Gruber would gain an early lead, as Maughlin, Walt and Archer battled for second. Maughlin would gain second and Walt would gain third. Caution would come out as Leignton spun in turn two, the field would restart with a top three of Gruber, Maughlin and Walt. Seventeen laps to go on the restart, and Gruber would hold the lead, Walt got to second, and Maughlin would hold third. Caution would immediatley come out for a spin in the middle of the field by Sage Dinkel. Gruber held the lead on the restart, and caution would come out for Leignton a second spin in turn two, ending his night. Gruber would restart the field with sixteen laps to go, Watts had gotten up to fourth place, and tried to find a way around Maughlin. Gruber led for a while and caution would come out as Sage Dinkel spun for a second time ending his night. On the restart Gruber would hold the lead. Walt and Gruber would battle closely for the lead, with Gruber prevailing and leading the remainder of the feature. Watts and Maughlin would battle for third place, with Maughlin prevailing to get that spot. Gruber crossed the line first, but was disqualifed as a result of post race inspection, handing the win to Blaine Walt who had won in Colby on Friday night. Second went to Brianna Maughlin and Tyler Watts took home third. Several drivers wanted hard charger as Blaine Walt, Adam Weber, Ryan Kirchoff, Matthew Miller and Sage Dinkel all picked up five spots each. (DNF) 97-Shawn Ward[2] Stock Cars: (Two eight lap heat races, one twenty lap feature) The first heat race featured a front row of Barrett Wagoner and Troy Burkhart. Kyle Pfiefer would get to the lead initially after starting third. Wagoner would go for a spin in turn four while running second, he would collect Tathan Burkhart, and Justin Merriman went around as well trying to avoid Wagoner. Pfiefer and Troy Burkhart would battle side by side for the lead, and Pfiefer would prevail. Meanwhile Tathan Burkhart and Brandon Conkwright were battling side by side for third place. Conkwright would continue to hold third place for a couple laps, and then Tyler Watts made it a three car battle for third place. Pfeifer would start to run away from Troy Burkhart, and on the final lap Tathan Burkhart and Conkwright would make contact but both were able to save their cars from spinning out. Pfiefer grabbed the heat win, Troy Burkhart got second and third went to Watts. The feature started with a front row of Troy Burkhart and Kyle Pfiefer. Troy Burkhart would gain the initial lead, and quickly Tathan Burkhart got to third. Tathan would start battling side by side with Kyle Pfiefer. At the halfway point, the top three was Troy, Pfiefer and Tathan. Wagoner would peak to the inside of Conkwright for fourth place just a lap or so after halfway. Caution would come out with three laps to go and the field would all meet again. The field had been separated into two three car packs. Troy would hold the lead on the restart, and Tathan would get by Pfiefer for second. Tathan would try to get to Troy and would battle side by side momentarily. Troy would get to the line first, and Tathan second, third went to Pfiefer. Hard charger was Barrett Wagoner who grabbed two spots, going from sixth to fourth. Barry gained the initial lead, meanwhile Lyle Russell moved into second, and Derick Coomes moved into third place. Russell would get around Barry for the lead, but on lap four in turn two Barry regained the lead. Russell lost the lead due to a flat tire. Barry would lead the remainder to grab the heat win, second was Derick Coomes and third was Jonathan Saliba. The second heat race featured a front row of Daniel Irwin and Deric Funk. Irwin would take the initial lead, and Funk would sit in second. Meanwhile Trevor Schmidt and Brooke Russell were duking it out for fourth place. Nicholas Ronnebaum would throw a slider over Funk to grab second place, and started chasing down Irwin. Ronnebaum would gain the lead by throwing another slider this time over Irwin. With two laps to go we saw a slider thrown by Schmidt to gain control over the fourth place spot. Funk and Irwin would battle to the end for second. Ronnebaum won the heat, Irwin got second, and third to Funk. The feature started with a front row of Jonathan Saliba and Daniel Irwin. The first attempt to start the feature saw a multi car incident, with Brooke Russell ending up square against the frontstretch wall, and Lyle Russell suffered right front body damage as well. Appeared like the row behind Brooke Russell tried to make an aggressive move to gain spots initially. The field would attempt to start again, and Ronnebaum would take the lead over Daniel Irwin. A five car battle would break out for the second place spot. Caution would come out as Austin Meis lost a lot of sheet metal. Ronnebaum would lead the field back to green, and Irwin along with Schmidt would battle closely for second. Meanwhile Lyle Russell was making his way back to the front. Croisant would go for a spin in turn two but got fired back up without bringing out the caution. Caution would come out as a couple laps later Croisant would spin after the leaders got by. The field would restart with eleven laps to go, and Ronnebaum would hold the lead, Schmidt and Irwin would battle side by side for second. Schmidt would get control of second, and then Lyle Russell and Irwin would start battling for third. Ronnebaum would go on to win the feature, Schmidt second, and Lyle Russell third. Hard charger was Lyle Russell as he picked up nine spots, going from twelfth to third. Tim Watts and Solberg would battle closely initially, Watts would grab the lead, meanwhile Dylan Sherfick got to second. Sherfick would lead lap three at the line. Solberg, Brett Smith, and Brandon Conkwright would all battle closely. Sherfick would go on to pick up the heat race win, second went to Watts, third went to Conkwright. The second heat race featured a front row of Ryan Richmeier and TeeJay Janousek. Janousek would take the initial lead, but quickly Jake Nightingale was making moves, getting to second place. Nightingale and Janousek would battle side by side for the lead and in turn four on the second lap Nightingale would grab the lead. Meanwhile Clay Money had entered the chat, and put pressure on Janousek for second, Don Geist would get to second after Money and Janousek were still battling. But quickly the battle for second got three wide, and then Kyle Rohleder decided he wanted second and the battle intensified even more so. On the sixth lap Rohleder found his way to control of second place. Nightingale grabbed the heat race win, second to Rohleder and third to Money. The feature started with a front row of David Solberg and TeeJay Janousek. Solberg held the early lead in the feature, and a whole group of cars were battling for third, really close racing. Rohleder would get to second on lap four. Nightingale was right behind Rohleder, battling for third. Nightingale would get around Rohleder for second and would start chasing down Solberg for the race lead. Meanwhile Clay Money was in a four car battle for fifth place. At the halfway point Solberg was still leading over Nightingale, and Rohleder. Nightingale would get around Solberg in the closing laps to gain the lead. Nightingale would win, second was Solberg, third was Rohleder, Money fourth and rounding out the top five was Brett Smith. Hard charger in the feature was Clay Money who picked up five spots, going from ninth to fourth.
