Night Two Recap

April 11,2021

The weather warmed up Saturday night and the action on the track was great, eighty six race teams made their way to Thomas County Speedway and man did they put on a show. We had exciting racing all night, track appeared to be slick and fast, big kudos to BJ and the crew for putting on a hell of a show. The stands were packed and you could feel and hear the excitement as the fans were engaged all night long.

The sport compacts got the show started with one six lap heat race, Ted Trumbo led the heat race wire to wire to pick up the win. In the feature Otto Schutte III led the first two laps but on lap number three Billy Turner made the bottom line stick in turns three and four and passed for the lead. Turner ended up building a gap and never looked back cruising to the win. Turner who had trouble friday night, was happy to rebound Saturday night with a win. Otto Schutte finished second, Trumbo third, Zach Cardwell fourth after an early spin, and Levi Rall did not finish but was credited with fifth. The sport compacts finished how they started with the exception of Mike Hedges who appeared to blow up in the heat race, and could not make the call for the feature.

The sport mods ran two eight lap heat races, John Fabrizius won the first one and Brett Berry won the second. Adam Weber had a strong run in the feature leading early and looking really good. But Friday night's feature winner Tyler Watts spun out in turns one and two and set up a restart on lap number six, that put Brendyn Nordyke and Blaine Walt side by side behind Adam Weber for the restart. On the restart Blaine Walt was able to power his way into second place. On lap nine the 26 of Lance Yoxsimer came to a stop and the caution flag flew. Brett Berry came to a stop with two laps to go in the feature and it set up a thrilling green white checkered restart. Blaine Walt who had been trying to find a way around Weber on the bottom finally made it work coming out of turn four and by an inch or so Walt stole the win from Adam Weber who had led from the drop of the green flag. Total elation for Blaine Walt but total heartbreak for Adam Weber, but a thrilling finish for everyone to witness. Blaine Walt won, Adam Weber second, Cody Williams third, Brendyn Nordyke fourth, Monty Nordyke rounded out your top five. Biggest mover of the race was Arie Schouten who moved from seventeenth place to a tenth place finish.

The stock cars ran three eight lap heat races, Nick Tubbs won the first heat race after starting sixth, Jason Rogers won the second heat race from the pole, Troy Burkhart won the third heat race after starting third. Casey Woken started second but took an early lead and he led wire to wire despite hard charges coming from Jason Rogers and Nick Tubbs. Jason Rogers who picked up the feature win Friday night which was his one hundredth IMCA win finished second, Nick Tubbs third, Josh Hudson fourth and Tathan Burkhart finished fifth. The biggest mover of the race was Joe Bellm who started twentieth and finished eighth.

The hobby stocks ran two eight lap heat races, Cody Williams picked up the first heat race win after starting fifth, and Brady Bencken won the second heat race from the fifth position as well. Mack James brought out an early caution after a spin, Hunter Smith had dropped his window net and appeared to be done for the night but he did return to the race. Lyle Russell led early on in the feature, Trent Matson went for a spin in turn four and set up a restart just before halfway and Brady Bencken on lap ten took the lead, but CJ Bollig and Mack James spun out in turns one and two to bring out a caution and set up a restart. They restarted with nine laps to go and Josh Barnhart grabbed the lead for a lap, as the leaders crossed the line the caution flag flew as BJ Rogers ripped a tire out of the infield and got sent to the rear of the field. Brady Bencken restarted in the lead with seven laps to go, and he was able to hold off Josh Barnhart and Cody Williams. Bencken picked up the win, and Josh Barnhart finished second, Cody Williams third, Lyle Russell fourth and BJ Rogers rounded out the top five. Biggest movers of the race were both Brady Bencken and Mack James who both picked up eight spots.

The modifieds ran three eight lap heat races, the first heat race went to Daniel Gottschalk, the second race went to Tanner Black and the third race went to Dakota Sproul. Clay Sellard led the first eight laps of the feature but a lapped car of TeeJay Janousek got into him going into turn one and spun him out. That would set up a restart with Dakota Sproul in the lead, David Solberg spun out and set up a restart that put Kyle Rohleder right behind Dakota Sproul and they were the two fastest cars. They restarted with just five laps to go and Sproul held off Kyle Rohleder to grab the feature win. Rohleder finished second, Tanner Black in third, Eddie Belec in fourth and fifth went to Daniel Gottschalk. Biggest mover of the race was Eddie Belec who gained eight spots going from twelfth to fourth.
