Money and Mullens Sweep The Sunflower Classic

Clay Money picked up right off where Tanner Mullens left off on Friday. As Money parked his number 7 modified in victory lane at the RPM Speedway, capping off a weekend sweep for Mullens Chassis. One hundred and eleven race teams checked in for the second night of the Mike Hughes Sunflower Classic. Joining Clay Money in victory lane on the night was, Gratton Dalton in the sport compacts, Dillon Richards in the hobby stocks, Kyle Pfeifer in the stock cars, and Blaine Walt in the sport mods. Each driver except for Walt and Richards picked up their first RPM feature of the season. Blaine Walt and Dillon Richards completed a weekend sweep. SPORT COMPACTS: (Two six lap heat races, one fifteen lap feature) The first heat race featured Zach Bohlmeyer and David Ghumm on the front row. Bohlmeyer would lead early, meanwhile Kaden Murray was trying to get by Kiowa Higdon for second. Bohlmeyer would start to pull away and he would easily grab the win. The second heat race featured Gage Porter and Branston Arnder Jr on the front row. Arnder would not fire off well and Porter would grab the early lead. A multi car battle between Gratton Dalton, Madison Reed, and Jarret Marker would break out for second place. Marker unfortunately would nose it into the frontstretch wall bringing out the caution. Gratton Dalton would gain the lead on the restart, after Porter could not get fired off right away. Dalton would hold the lead until two to go as Reed powered by to grab the lead. Reed would go on to win the second heat race. Gratton Dalton and David Ghumm started the fifteen lap feature on the front row. Bohlmeyer and Reed would make it three wide with Dalton right off the bat, Dalton would prevail to hold the lead. Meanwhile Ted Trumbo made it three wide a little ways back. Higdon and Trumbo would battle side by side for fourth place. Bohlmeyer and Dalton would battle side by side with eleven laps to go. Murray would battle Kiowa Higdon for fifth place. With nine to go Murray would get by Higdon and start working on Trumbo. At halfway the top five was Bohlmeyer, Dalton, Reed, Trumbo and Murray. Brian Meis would spin in turn four to bring out a caution with five laps to go. On the restart Bohlmeyer would maintain the lead, and Dalton and Reed would battle side by side, Murray would get by Reed and then peek to the inside of Dalton. Gratton Dalton grabbed the feature win, Madision Reed second, Ted Trumbo third, Kiowa Higdon fourth, and David Kappel rounded out the top five. (DNF) 77-Branston Arnder Jr[2] HOBBY STOCKS: (Four eight lap heat races, one ten lap b-feature, and one twenty lap a-feature) The first heat race would feature a front row of Christian Destefano and Alicia Hilzer. Hilzer would grab the early lead, and Jason Mcintyre, along with Trevor Schmidt would go three wide with Hilzer for the lead. Trevor Schmidt would gain the lead after a slidejob. Adam Wasserman would battle Hilzer and Gilland for fourth. Trevor Schmidt would end up with the first heat race win, he along with, Jason Mcintyre, Ryan Gilland, and Adam Wasserman would all transfer to the a-feature. The second heat race would feature a front row of Taylor Huss and Tyler Heath. Huss would grab the inital lead, meanwhile Shay Simoneau was making moves to get up front. Huss on the second lap would slow and not be able to get pitside bringing out a caution, and Tyler Heath would grab the lead. Heath would have the lead on the restart for a lap, but Morgan Olmstead would spin in four and bring out a caution. Heath and Simoneau would battle side by side, but then Simoneau would spin along with Dylan Bell but both drivers refired without a caution. Heath and Rogers would battle side by side, and Rogers would get around Heath to win the heat race. Bingston Rogers, Tyler Heath, Dion Priddy, and Dylan Bell would all transfer to the a-feature. The third heat race would feature a front row of Joel Dix and James Hart. Dix, Hart and Dillon Thompson would battle three wide, then two wide between Thompson and Hart for first. Hart and Thompson would continue to battle side by side. Hart would gain the advantage after a couple laps. and caution would come out with three to go as Travis Branum would come to a stop in turn four. Hart would bring the field to a restart, and would maintain the lead, and caution would come out with two to go, as Dillon Thompson went around after contact from Brendon Stigge. Hart would bring the field to the final restart, and win the third heat race. James Hart, Dillon Thompson, Brendon Stigge, and Lyle Russell would all transfer to the a-feature. The fourth heat race would start with a front row of Dillon Richards, and Derick Coomes. Dillon Richards would grab the early lead, and Brady Bencken would start hunting him down. The field would go single file, and Richards would lead wire to wire to win the fourth heat race. Dillon Richards, Brady Bencken, Derick Coomes, and Tyler Thompson would all transfer to the a-feature. Alicia Hilzer and Shay Simoneau started the b-feature from the front row. Simoneau would gain the early advantage, and Brooke Russell would start battling side by side. The two would keep battling closely. Caution would come out with four laps to go as Justin Meserve would spin out. Simouneau would keep the lead after the restart, meanwhile Blake Holmes would bring his car to the infield after an apparent issue. Simoneau would hold off a charging Brooke Russell to grab the b-feature win. Shay Simoneau, Brooke Russell, Joel Dix, Taylor Huss, Alicia Hilzer, Morgan Olmstead, Drew Barry and Travis Branum would all advance to the a-feature. Bingston Rogers and Trevor Schmidt would start the feature on the front row. Rogers, Richards, and Schmidt would battle three wide to start, and Rogers would spin Schmidt out to bring a caution out. Rogers would go to the tail end of the field for causing the caution. Schmidt would bring the field to a restart, Richards and Schmidt would battle side by side on lap three, meanwhile Bencken was up to fourth place. Schmidt would continue to hold the lead at lap five. Richards would get by Schmidt on lap seven at the line but Schmidt would get the lead right back. On lap nine Richards would make another attempt to get by Schmidt but Schmidt would prevail. Richards would get by Schmidt on lap eleven, but Schmidt would throw a crossover and Richards would fall back to fourth. On the restart Richards would get back to second. Meanwhile Simomeau and Lyle Russell would work to get to fourth and fifth place. Richards and Stigge would get around Schmidt with three to go, moving them into first and second place. Caution would come out with two to go as Tyler Heath would hit the frontstretch wall. Richards would bring the field to the restart, and would hold off Stigge to win the feature. Dillon Richards won completing the weekend sweep, Brendon Stigge second, Trevor Schmidt third, Lyle Russell fourth and Brady Bencken rounded out the top five. The hard charger was Taylor Huss who went from twentieth to eighth picking up twelve spots. Tathan Burkhart would get around Austin Carter with four laps to go to gain second place. Meanwhile Mike Nichols had the heat race on cruise control. On the final lap Tathan Burkhart would get around Mike Nichols in turn two to steal the heat race victory from Nichols. The second heat race would feature a front row of Kyle Pfeifer and Mike Petersilie. Pfeifer would gain the early advantage, and Tyler Frye would jump to second place. Casey Woken and Mike Petersile would battle side by side. Pfiefer would lead wire to wire to win the second heat race. The third heat race saw Kolby Stegman and Tyler Watts start from the front row. Stegman would grab an early lead but get too high in turns one and two and Watts would grab the lead. Watts and Troy Burkhart would start battling closely, and Tyler Tipton would join the battle. Tipton would get to Burkhart's outside with one lap to go to gain second place, and at the line would get around Tyler Watts for the third heat race win. Casey Woken and Tyler Frye started on the front row of the feature. Woken would grab the early lead, and Mike Nichols would get by Frye for second. Jason Rogers and Don Schweitzer would go around on the backstretch on lap two to bring out a caution. Woken would get the jump on the restart, meanwhile Frye and Nichols would battle side by side. Don Schwietzer, Dillon Reese and Kolby Stegman would all go around on the backstretch to bring out the caution. Woken would maintain the lead on the restart, Nichols would power to second, and Kyle Pfeifer would battle Frye for third place. Woken would clip off several laps in the lead, with Nichols, Frye and Pfeifer in tow. Bobby Eubanks would spin and bring out a caution. On the restart Pfeifer would get around Nichols for second. Frye and Tyler Tipton would battle side by side for fourth and fifth. At the halfway mark Don Schweitzer would lose a motor, and Reese would come to a stop on the backstretch. Reese suffered a broken right front hub and brakes. Woken would restart the field again, and Pfeifer, along with Nichols would get to Woken's rear bumper. Pfeifer would power to the lead around Woken with six laps to go. Woken and Nichols would battle side by side for second. Kyle Pfeifer would walk away with the feature win. Second went to Mike Nichols. third went to Casey Woken, fourth to Tyler Tipton and fifth to Tyler Frye. Along with his win, Kyle Pfeifer got hard charger picking up nine spots en route to the win. Brozek took the inital lead, but spun in turn two. Brianna Maughlin went around as well, but was able to refire. The field would return to an original restart, Brozek would hold the lead for the first lap, as Ryan Kirchoff would start hunting him down. Meanwhile Brett Berry made his way from last to third within two laps. Caution would come out for a lost spring and the field would restart. Brozek would lead, but Berry would quickly grab the lead from Brozek. Berry would pull away to win the first heat race. The second heat race featured a front row of Brendyn Nordyke and Kam Gruber. Jeff Hunter would make it three wide on the inital start with Nordyke and Gruber, and Gruber would lead lap one. Hunter would pull up to Gruber but Matt Rucker and Ryan Moser would collect each other to bring out the caution on lap two. Gruber would bring the field to a restart, and he would continue to lead, caution would come out with three laps to go as Josh Barnhart would spin. Gruber would lead the field to a final restart, and he would lead the remainder, to win the third heat race. The third heat race featured a front row of Connor Barnes and Lance Yoxsimer. Barnes would lead the first lap. meanwhile Jacey Archer and Blaine Walt battled for second place. Walt would get by Archer and Barnes on the third lap. Blaine Walt would pull away from the field and spend the rest of the heat race trying different grooves to find even more speed, as well as winning the third heat race. Shawn Ward and Blaine Walt made up the front row of the feature. Walt grabbed an early lead, and Brendyn Nordyke along with Jeff Hunter started chasing Walt. Caution would come out as several cars wrecked in the back half of the field in turn four. Walt would maintain the lead on the restart, with Nordyke, Hunter and Berry chasing him. Walt would end up leading wire to wire, while navigating lapped traffic well. Meanwhile Brett Berry would make a run to second. Walt won completing the weekend sweep, Brett Berry second, third was Jeff Hunter, Brendyn Nordyke fourth and Jacey Archer finished fifth. Brett Berry was the hard charger picking up eleven spots. Watts would control early, meanwhile Dylan Sherfick was quick to jump to the bottom and gain spots. Watts would continue to lead, meanwhile Cody Gearhart and Kelsie Foley would battle for fourth. Watts would lead wire to wire to win the first heat race. Tim Watts, Daniel Gottschalk, Dylan Sherfick, and Cody Gearhart would all transfer to the a-feature. TeeJay Janousek and Jake Nightingale would make up the front row of the second heat race. Nightingale would grab the early lead, meanwhile Tanner Mullens jumped right to second place, and started putting heavy pressure on Nightingale. Nightingale, Mullens, and Tanner Black would break away from the rest of the field. Nightingale would lead wire to wire to win the second heat race. Jake Nightingale, Tanner Mullens, Tanner Black along with Brian Cross would transfer to the a-feature. Brandon Conkwright and Clay Money started on the front row of the third heat race. Clay Money would grab the early lead after getting by Conkwright in turn two. Money would lead wire to wire to pick up the win in heat race three. Clay Money, Brandon Conkwright, Spencer Wilson, and Trey Duensing would all transfer to the a-feature. Tim Clark and Mike Petersilie lead the field to the start of heat race number four. Petersilie would gain the early lead, as Tim Clark would fall to second. Clark would spin with five laps to go, and Danny Keller would spin while trying to avoid Clark. Petersilie would bring the field to a restart, and would maintain the lead, meanwhile Beau Speicher and Dakota Sproul were battling for second place. Petersilie would lead wire to wire to pick up the win in heat number four. Mike Petersilie, Beau Speicher, Dakota Sproul along with Brenden Damon would all transfer into the a-feature. Kelsie Foley and Greg Gustus made up the front row of the b-feature. Foley would jump the early lead, but quickly Gustus got around Foley to take the lead. Foley and Danny Morrison would battle side by side for second. Caution would come out for David Solberg spinning. Gustus would build a good lead right off the restart, meanwhile Foley and Morrison continued to battle side by side for second. Foley would prevail for second, Kyle Rohleder and Morrison would battle for third. Caution would come out as Rich Tegethoff and Ryan Richmeier would collect each other. Gustus would still have control after the restart, but Foley, Morrison and Rohleder would battle three wide, Morrsion would prevail to grab second. Gustus would end up with the b-feature win. Greg Gustus, Danny Morrison, Kelsie Foley, Kyle Rohleder, TeeJay Janousek, Curtis Barnes, Danny Keller and Ryan Richmeier all would advance to the a-feature. The feature started with a front row of Dylan Sherfick and Jake Nightingale. Nightingale would grab the early lead, Conkwright would pull to the pits early. Dylan Sherfick would start chasing down Nightingale. The first five laps would go to Nightingale, with Sherfick second, Gottschalk third, and Money fourth. At the halfway mark the top-four was the same. Caution would come out for Richmeier, and Nightingale would bring the field to a restart. On the restart Sherfick would get loose and get into Gottschalk, and they both would fail to finish. The field would restart with nine to go, and the top five was Nightingale, Money, Petersilie, Mullens and Speicher. Petersilie would get to the lead, but would spin out in turn four. Money would gain the lead. Money would bring the field to the restart, and would lead the remainder, Tanner Mullens would get by Nightengale for second. Clay Money won his first feature of 2022, Tanner Mullens second, Jake Nightengale third, fourth went to Beau Speicher, and fifth went to Trey Duensing. Curtis Barnes picked up fifteen spots giving him the hard charger mention.
