Kyle Rohleder Rolls To Victory In Hays

08/14/2022 Latest recap at Rolling Plains Motor Speedway By: Sheldon Wickwar Sixty-six race teams rolled into RPM Speedway last night during "Bike Night" for the kids, as drivers and teams made one more points push before the championship night. It was a great night of racing, featuring Chris Lohrey getting the cruisers victory, Connor Schwien the sport compact victory, Deric Funk the hobby stock victory, Blaine Walt the sport mod victory, Troy Burkhart the stock car victory, and Kyle Rohleder getting the modified victory. CRUISERS: (One six lap heat race, twelve lap feature) The heat race started with a front row of Shaun Woods and Madelyn Kraus. Woods would get an early lead, and he would start pulling away from Chris Lohrey who ran in second. Matt Ramsey would get too high in turn two around halfway but was able to keep going. Shaun Woods went on to pick up the win, second was Chris Lohrey, third was Weston Kraus and Dylan Pfeifer finished fourth. The feature started with a front row of Shaun Woods and Chris Lohrey. Woods got the early advantage, and Lohrey would start chasing and looking for a way around. On lap two Lohrey would complete the pass on Woods in turn two, and Weston Kraus would get by Woods as well. Dylan Pfeifer and Shaun Woods would battle for third for a few laps. Woods would prevail, and Madelyn Kraus would start to battle Pfiefer for fourth place. Madelyn Kraus would go for a spin with two laps to go, but was able to keep going. Meanwhile Lohrey was pulling away from the field and would cruise to the feature win. Chris Lohrey grabbed the win, second was Weston Kraus, third was Shaun Woods, fourth was Dylan Pfeifer, and fifth was Madelyn Kraus. (DNF) 911-Matt Ramsey[5] Heat 1 (6 Laps): 1. 666-Shaun Woods[1]; 2. 12-Chris Lohrey[4]; 3. 63-Weston Kraus[3]; 4. 10 32-Dylan Pfeifer[6]; 5. 911-Matt Ramsey[5]; 6. 29-Madelyn Kraus[2] SPORT COMPACTS: (Two six lap heat races, fifteen lap feature) The first heat race started with a front row of Connor Schwien and Madison Reed. Madison Reed would grab the early lead in turn one, three wide momentarily down the backstretch, as Dave Kappel, Connor Schwien and Kiowa Higdon battled. Kappel would get to second, and start chasing Reed. Reed would go on to win the heat race, leading from flag to flag. Dave Kappel finished second, third was Connor Schwien, fourth was Kiowa Higdon and fifth went to Kyle Mortensen. The second heat race started with a front row of Remington Cox and Logan Casper. Casper jumped to the early lead, and took off. Meanwhile Ted Trumbo shot to the second position, with Gage Porter closing in. Casper would continue to build a nice lead over Trumbo and Porter. Meanwhile Remington Cox and Kyle Benoit making his season debut after a successful battle with cancer, were battling for fourth. Logan Casper picked up the win, second was Ted Trumbo, third Gage Porter, fourth Remington Cox, and fifth Kyle Benoit. The feature started with a front row of Connor Schwien and Remington Cox. Connor Schwien would gain an early lead. Dave Kappel, Gage Porter, Kiowa Higdon, and Remington Cox would go four wide down the backstretch on the opening lap. Schwien led lap one with Casper on his bumper. Reed, Higdon, Porter and Mortensen would all battle for the third spot throughout laps two and three. Porter and Reed would battle side by side for the third place position, meanwhile Casper was trying to pressure Schwien just before halfway. Reed, Porter, and Higdon would continue to battle for third past halfway, while Schwien and Casper were still patrolling the field. Madison Reed would pull off in the closing laps, as his motor got hot and he chose to protect the motor. Casper would make a last ditch effort in the final two laps to get around Schwien but was not able to make it happen. Connor Schwien won, second Logan Casper, third Kiowa Higdon, fourth David Kappel and Gage Porter rounded out the top five. Hard chargers in the feature were David Kappel and Kyle Mortensen who both picked up three spots each. K3-Kyle Benoit[5] HOBBY STOCKS: (Two eight lap heat races, twenty lap feature) The first heat race started with a front row of Cole Pfeifer and Manuel Salazar. Pfeifer would get the early lead, but quickly Daniel Irwin started running him down, Pfeifer led lap one and two. Brooke Russell and Lyle Russell would shoot past Salazar on lap three and start battling each other for third. Lyle would get to third and start battling Irwin and Pfeifer. Irwin would get to the lead in turns three and four with Lyle on his rear quarterpanel, and Pfeifer right there as well. Irwin would lead lap four. Pfeifer went around in turn two to bring out the yellow flag. Daniel Irwin, Lyle Russell would bring the field back to a restart. Irwin would continue to lead, Lyle would try to make a pass but could not complete it. Daniel Irwin picked up the win, second was Lyle Russell, third was Brooke Russell, fourth was Manuel Salazar, and fifth was Hayden Kelly. The second heat race started with a front row of Jonathan Saliba and Deric Funk. Funk would gain the early lead, Coomes and Reagan Sellard would follow in tow. Nicholas Ronnebaum would start moving up on the outside to get around Selllard, and would start battling Coomes. Ronnebaum would pull a slider on Funk to grab the lead in four in the closing laps, he had gotten around Coomes earlier. Nicholas Ronnebaum picked up the win, second was Derick Coomes, third was Deric Funk, fourth was Reagan Sellard, and fifth went to James Hart. The feature started with a front row of Manuel Salazar and Deric Funk. Salazar held an early lead. Lyle Russell would almost spin out down the backstretch but saved it. Funk would get around Salazar to grab the lead. Caution came out as Brook Russell lost an engine in turns one and two. Funk would lead the field back to green, and Ronnebaum would force things three wide, as he tried to move forward. Hart, Coomes and Ronnebaum would all battle for the third spot throughout laps two through four. Coomes would get too high in turn three and head to the pits. Meanwhile Funk was building up quite the lead, and Lyle Russell was headed to the front, after a near spin earlier. Ronnebaum took an aggressive shot in turns three and four to get the third position. Funk would continue to build his lead, at one point he held a multiple-second lead over second place. Caution would come out as Hayden Ogorzolka went off track, and Hayden Kelly was around as well. Caution was charged to Ronnebaum as he had tried pulling a slider on Ogorzolka and sent him off track. Ronnebaum was sent to the back for the restart. Deric Funk would lead the field to a restart with four laps to go. Russell would get side by side with Funk for a little bit. Sellard would spin in two, collecting Ronnebaum and caution came out as Ronnebaum was stopped in turn three, and would be towed to the pits. Funk brought the field to a green, white, checkered attempt, and Lyle Russell and James Hart would battle for second. Deric Funk would go on to win the feature, second went to James Hart barely at the line, third was Lyle Russell, fourth was Manuel Salazar and fifth was Daniel Irwin. Hard chargers were, Jonathan Saliba, Hayden Ogorzolka, and Justin Meserve who all picked up six spots each. (DNF) 17H-Hayden Ogorzolka[7] SPORT MODS: (Two eight lap heat races, twenty lap feature) The first heat race started with a front row of Sage Dinkel and Kamren Gruber. Kam Gruber would power to the early lead, and quickly a battle broke out between Blaine Walt, and Tyler Watts for second, and Josh Barnhart was looking on from fourth. Kam Gruber went on to pick up the heat win, second was Tyler Watts, third was Blaine Walt, fourth was Josh Barnhart, and fifth was Sage Dinkel. The second heat race started with a front row of Taos Leighton and Brianna Maughlin. Maughlin grabbed the early lead, with Jacey Archer and Boone Evans chasing in tow. Evans would battle Archer side by side for a bit and make a pass for the second spot. But Archer was able to battle back. Maughlin went on to win the heat race, second was Jacey Archer, third to Boone Evans, fourth to Ryan Kirchoff, and rounding out the top five was Taos Leighton. The feature started with a front row of Sage Dinkel and Taos Leighton. Dinkel would lead early, and Gruber was able to get to second and started pressuring for the lead. Gruber and Dinkel would battle side by side, and Tyler Watts joined the battle. Gruber was leading and was off the pace, caution would come out. Gruber was out with a bad transmission. Sage Dinkel would bring the field to a restart, with four laps down in the feature and sixteen to go. A three wide battle would ensue off the restart, Tyler Watts would get to the lead, and Blaine Walt was flying as he moved from fifth to second off the restart after starting the feature tenth. Boone Evans would head to the infield with a problem, and a lap later Brianna Maughlin would spin and be sent to the tail of the field. Watts would bring the field to the restart, and Josh Barnhart would get by Walt off the restart. Caution would come out after a couple laps as Leighton went off in turn three. Watts would bring the field to another restart right at the halfway mark, and would hold the lead off the restart. Walt would get by Barnhart to regain control of second place, and would start chasing down Watts for the lead. Tyler Watts would head to the pits after a couple laps with an issue, and Blaine Walt would inherit the lead. Taos Leighton would stop on the backstretch and bring out a caution, and would go back to the pits. Walt would bring the field back to a restart and would start to build a lead. Meanwhile Josh Barnhart and Brianna Maughlin were battling for second place. Blaine Walt went on to pick up the feature win, second was Josh Barnhart, third Brianna Maughlin, fourth Tony Steenson and fifth went to Sage Dinkel. Hard charger in the event was Blaine Walt who charged from tenth to first in the feature. It was Walt's fifth regular season win at RPM on the year. Troy Burkhart grabbed the early lead, with Travis Baird, and Garrett Hager following in tow. Brandon Conkwright was sitting in fourth, and Boone Evans in fifth and Tathan Burkhart was running sixth. Troy would continue to lead, and led flag to flag to pick up the heat race win. Second was Travis Baird, Garrett Hager third, Brandon Conkwright fourth, Boone Evans fifth and Tathan Burkhart sixth. The feature started with a front row of Travis Baird and Troy Burkhart. Travis Baird led early, Brandon Conkwright and Troy Burkhart would battle side by side. Baird led lap one, but on lap two he and Troy Burkhart battled side by side, Baird was able to lead lap two and three. Conkwright would join the battle on lap four. Conkwright and Burkhart would battle side by side through turns one and two on lap five, but Troy prevailed, and started going after Baird again. On lap six Conkwright threw his hat back into the battle for the lead, but again Troy held him off. Troy and Conkwright would continue to battle closely. All of a sudden Troy, Baird, Hager and Conkwright would all battle for the lead. Troy would get to the lead, Baird would slide off the backstretch. Troy continued to lead, with Conkwright, Hager, and Evans chasing. Tathan and Baird had retired from the event. With two laps to go Conkwright was trying everything he could to get around Troy but was unable to do so. Troy Burkhart picked up the feature win, second was Brandon Conkwright, third to Garrett Hager, and fourth to Boone Evans. Caution came out right off the bat as Bill Albin was unable to get going. The front row would be Kaid Calhoon and John Rawson. Rawson gained the early advantage to lead lap one, and caution would come out as Jesse Richter went off in turns one and two. Rawson would bring the field to a restart, meanwhile Money and Sherfick were moving forward. David Solberg would get to the lead but Clay Money was charging on the outside to grab the lead. Clay Money would continue to lead and Sherfick would get by Solberg with two laps to go. Clay Money picked up the heat win, second was Dylan Sherfick, third was Kyle Rohleder, fourth was David Solberg and fifth was Kaid Calhoon. The second heat race started with a front row of Jason Ward and Ryan Richmeier. Brandon Conkwright would get to the early lead, meanwhile Tim Watts and Jake Nightingale were battling for third. Nightingale got to second, while Clay Sellard got around Watts for fourth. Conkwright continued to lead over Nightingale. Brandon Conkwright won the heat, second was Jake Nightingale, third Clay Sellard, fourth Ryan Richmeier, and fifth was Tim Watts. The feature started with a front row of Ryan Richmeier and Kaid Calhoon. Ryan Richmeier grabbed an early lead, but Conkwright was side by side. Caution came out as Curt Croisant went around in turn one. Richmeier led on the restart, meanwhile Kyle Rohleder picked up four spots off the restart. Rohleder would start to battle Conkwright and get around him for third. Rohleder started chasing down Richmeier after getting by Kaid Calhoon for second. Caution came out as Bill Albin was trying to get off track, Richmeier led the field to a restart and caution would come out for Croisant being stopped in one and two. Richmeier would bring the field to a restart with sixteen laps to go. Rohleder started chasing for the lead, Sellard went around in four but was able to save it. Kyle Rohleder got to the field with fourteen laps to go, meanwhile Gottschalk, Sherfick, and Money were all moving forward. At the halfway mark it was Rohleder, Sherfick, Conkwright, and Gottschalk in the top four. Rohleder would start working through lapped traffic, with four laps to go Croisant got sent off in turn two but kept going. Caution would come out as Rohleder took the white flag, as Jason Ward went around in turn two. Rohleder would bring the field to a green, white, checkered attempt. Gottschalk and Sherfick got good jumps on the restart, Gottschalk would try to get around on the inside, but Kyle Rohleder got to the line just barely in front of Gottschalk. Kyle Rohleder picked up win number two on the season at RPM Speedway. Daniel Gottschalk was second, third went to Dylan Sherfick, fourth to Clay Money, and fifth was Brandon Conkwright. Hard charger was Daniel Gottschalk who charged from twelfth, to second place.
