Jeremy Huish Wins Inaugural DCRP Sprint Car Nationals!

Friday's action featured sport compacts, hobby stocks, sport mods and United Rebel Sprint Series. Winning the IMCA features Friday Night were Steven Swarthout in the sport mods, Grant Logue in the sport compacts and Cody Williams in the hobby stocks. Conner Thomas and Steven Richardson won the two qualifiers for the sprint cars.


The sport compacts started the show, off Friday with an eight-lap heat race with Kaishen Brack picking up the win. They ran a fifteen-lap feature that started with a front row of Cam Adams and Ethan Gumm, Adams led early but towards the end of the feature Grant Logue got by to go on to win the race. Second was Kaishen Brack, third was Ethan Gumm, fourth was Cam Adams and Lester Lucas finished fifth. Hard chargers were Logue and Brack who gained three spots each.

The hobby stocks were second on the program and they three eight-lap heat races won by Cody Williams, Dion Priddy and Tyler Heath. Their fifteen-lap feature started with a front row of Cody Williams and Reagan Sellard, Williams gained the early race lead, and survived a few restarts to pick up yet another win on the young racing season. Second was Tyler Heath, third was Dylan Bell, fourth was Reagan Sellard and fifth was Hayden Ogorzolka. Hard charger was David Berger who gained twelve spots, other nice runs were Chad Kelley up ten spots, and Tyler Heath up eight spots.

The sprints ran four eight lap heat races, with passing points setting the lineups for the qualifiers. Jack Thomas, Joey Danley, Ray Seemann and Tyler Knight all won heat racers. Qualifiers took the top five finishers and locked them into Saturday's main event. Locking into Saturday's a-main from qualifier one was Conner Thomas, Koby Walters, Danny Wood, Jeremy Huish and Jake Martens. Qualifier two's lock ins were Steven Richardson, Jason Danley, Jeremey Campbell, Tanner Conn and Tyler Drueke.


The sport mods finished Friday's event with two eight-lap heat races won by Steven Swarthout and Brendyn Nordyke. Their fifteen-lap feature started with a front row of Justin Lampe and Jimmy Brozek, early on Steven Swarthout grabbed the race lead and never looked back as he went on to win the feature. Second was Justin Lampe, third was Monty Nordyke, fourth was Ryan Kirchoff and Brianna Maughlin rounded out the top-five. Hard charger was Matt Rucker who gained three spots in the feature event. Steven Swarthout, Monty Nordyke, Brianna Maughlin, and Scott Burke all gained two spots each.

The cruisers started Saturday's events off with a heat race which saw Weston Kraus jump to a five-car length lead over David Kraus early on. A few laps in Dakota Bliss got to second place and started to try to chase down Weston Kraus. Weston would take the white flag with a three-quarter of a straightaway lead and easily won the heat race. Second was Dakota Bliss, third was David Kraus, fourth was Madelyn Kraus and fifth was Raymond Blackburn.

The fifteen-lap feature had a front row of Weston Kraus and Dakota Bliss, Bliss and Kraus ran side-by-side to start the feature with Weston prevailing for the lead. An early caution would lead to a restart with Weston Kraus firing off well, Bliss was in second, with David Kraus in third and the field singled out and started clipping laps off. Weston Kraus picked up the feature event win, second was Chris Lohrey, third was Dakota Bliss, and fourth was Raymond Blackburn. Hard charger in the event was Chris Lohrey who gained four spots.

The stock cars were second on Saturday's lineup, they started their show, off with an eight-lap heat race, Jesse Smith took an early lead over Tathan Burkhart. At the halfway point Smith held a one second lead over Tathan Burkhart, who was defending runs from Chris Oliver and Mike Petersillie. Smith would go on to win the heat race, second was Tathan Burkhart, third was Chris Oliver, fourth was Mike Petersillie and Troy Burkhart was fifth.

The twenty-lap feature started with a front row of Jeese Smith and Troy Burkhart, Troy gained the early race lead over Smith and Oliver. The field would single out around the bottom side of the speedway, with the only car running the outside line being Mike Petersillie who was running fourth. At halfway Troy still led over Smith and Oliver. Tathan Burkhart peeled off early and the remaining four cars singled out with Troy Burkhart going on to win the feature. His first win of the 2024 season, second was Jesse Smith, third was Chris Oliver, and fourth was Mike Petersillie. Troy Burkhart, Chris Oliver and Mike Petersillie all gained one spot each in the event.

In an interview with Tanner Schmidt, Troy Burkhart said, "it was nice to get this car back after junking it in Lacrosse." "Feels good to get the win."

The modifieds were third on Saturday's lineup, they ran two eight-lap heat races. Heat one featured a front row of Jake Nightingale and Kale Beavers, Nightingale got the early jump and quickly Beavers settled into second place. Making his modified debut Tathan Burkhart would find fourth place at the halfway point. Nightingale would win the heat by eight seconds, second was Kale Beavers, third was Danny Keller, fourth was Tathan Burkhart and fifth was Jim Graves.

The second heat race had a front row of Brett Berry and Clay Money, the duo would break away from the pack right away with Berry prevailing with the lead. At the halfway point Berry held a two and a half second lead over Clay Money. Brett Berry won, second was Clay Money, third was Clay Sellard, fourth was Casey Jo Gemmill, and fifth was Derrick Sprott.

The twenty-lap feature had a front row of Tathan Burkhart and Jim Graves, Tathan got the early lead meanwhile Clay Sellard and Brett Berry were making big moves to get to the front. Brett Berry would grab the lead by lap three and started pulling away, meanwhile rookie Tathan Burkhart had a bumper full of Clay Money. Clay Sellard got up to the fourth spot by lap six and started to close in on Money and Burkhart. At the halfway point Brett Berry held a five second lead over Clay Money and Tathan Burkhart. With five laps to go Brett Berry got into heavy lapped traffic, but it did not slow him down as he still held a six second lead. Caution came out with four laps to go as a piece of debris sat in turn two. Berry led the field to a final restart, and would storm away with the race lead, meanwhile Clay Money and Clay Sellard made contact, and Sellard was forced to retire early. Brett Berry won the event, Clay Money was second, Casey Jo Gemmill was third, Jake Nightingale was fourth and Tathan Burkhart rounded out the top five. Hard charger was Jake Nightingale who gained six spots, Clay Money was able to gain five spots.

Brett Berry in an interview with Tanner Schmidt said, "I didn't know what to expect, car makes me look good, lots of weight off my shoulders after getting that first win of the season."

The sprints ran two twelve lap b-mains with the top-five finishers of each race transferring into the main event. B-Main one started with a front row of Joey Danley and Ray Seemann, Seemann gained the early race lead, with Joey Danley in tow. The field singled out and Ray Seemann grabbed the win of the first b-main, second was Joey Danley, third was Kyler Johnson, fourth was Brian Herbert and Zach Blurton was fifth, they all transferred into the main event.

B-Main two started with a front row of Jordan Knight and Tyler Knight, the brothers quickly pulled away from the field with Jordan prevailing with the lead. After five laps Brandy Jones got by Kohl Ricke for the last transfer spot. Jordan would start to quickly gap the field, as they singled out with multiple big second gaps in between drivers. Jordan Knight won, Tyler Knight was second, third was Jon Freeman, fourth was Dusty Ballenger, and fifth was Brandy Jones, all transferring into the main event.


The thirty-lap feature started with a front row of Jeremy Huish and Conner Thomas, Huish gained the early race lead over Conner Thomas and Steven Richardson. After five laps Huish held a two second lead over Thomas. Meanwhile Ray Seemann and Kyler Johnson were making moves in the back of the field, Seemann went for a slight detour but gathered it back up. Lap seven saw a caution as Tyler Drueke came to a stop down the frontstretch. Huish brought the field back to a restart and quickly built a second and a half lead over the field. Richardson and Thomas would start racing closely for second place, but no one was catching Huish. At the halfway point the top five runners were Jeremy Huish, Conner Thomas, Steven Richardson, Danny Wood and Koby Walters. Lap seventeen saw Huish enter lapped traffic, meanwhile Wood and Richardson started duking it out for third place with Richardson prevailing. Thomas started closing the gap by lap twenty, while Huish was struggling with lapped traffic. Lap twenty-six saw a caution as the 45x of Kyler Johnson lost an engine, he had been running ninth on the field. Huish would lead the field to a restart with just five laps to go, one lap later caution came out as the 14 car of Joey Danley flipped in turn four, he was able to get out of the race car, also involved was the 72 car of Ray Seemann. Both drivers were able to climb out of their cars. Huish would bring the field to a final restart with four laps to go and would hold on to win the feature. Second was Conner Thomas, third was Steven Richardson, fourth was Danny Wood and fifth was Koby Walters. Hard charger in the event was Zach Blurton who gained eleven spots, Brandy Jones was able to grab six spots, while Jon Freeman and Dusty Ballenger grabbed five spots each.


Jeremy Huish picked up a $5000 payday for winning the inaugural DCRP Sprint Car Nationals, in an interview with Dalton Janousek, Huish said "$5000 richer felt pretty good." also said "It came down to coming out of two, said the car was perfect for tonight."

Second place Conner Thomas said, "I had a shot and didn't do what I needed to do, but definitely gave me confidence running with these guys."

Third place Steven Richardson said, "a lot of fun, caught lapped traffic and thought it would get interesting, but the caution came out."
