Championship Preview

August 6, 2021

We're getting closer and closer to August 13th which is championship night at the Thomas County Speedway. The fans have been treated to quite the season, as we've seen a lot of really good racing, and good point battles. The usual five IMCA classes will run on that Friday night and crown their champions, in this article you'll see the points standings, as well as a little write up for each class. Sport Compacts: 1. Billy Turner 252 2. Ted Trumbo 251 3. Otto Schutte 243 4. Zach Cardwell 228 5. Madison Reed 213 6. Jarrett Marker 172 7. Mike Hedges 71 8. Gratton Dalton 68 9. Levi Rall 66 10. Colin Ridder 65 The sport compacts have put on a decent show this year, they only had one multiple feature winner so far this year and that was Madison Reed. In the seven features they have had six different winners. They have been fun to watch, as they have one of the tightest points battles, but also it's been a lot of fun watching the friendly, but quite competitive battle between Madison Reed as they chase each other in IMCA state points. The championship will come down to Billy Turner, Ted Trumbo, or Otto Schutte. Schutte may seem like a bit of a longshot, but then again we are talking about racing, and it is always crazy and unpredictable. Trumbo and Turner have both been extremely consistent as they both have finished in the top-five of every feature this season. Both of their seasons have looked like this, in seven features, seven top-tens, and top-fives and one win on the season. Otto Schutte has six top-fives, seven top-tens, and no wins on the season. Sport Mods: 1. Blaine Walt 274 2. Adam Weber 246 3. Monty Nordyke 245 4. Tony Acierno 234 5. Brendyn Nordyke 233 6. Jasen Gray 228 7. Brianna Maughlin 173 8. Luke Stallbaumer 170 9. Tyler Watts 166 10. Cody Williams 162 The sport mods have been truly exciting this year, despite Blaine Walt having a super dominant season, the racing has been extremely good. The second race of the season saw a last lap, final corner pass from Walt to win for example. In the seven features, there have been three different winners, with Walt leading the way with four, Tyler Watts has two, and the most recent winner was Brett Berry. Now it appears like Walt is off in the sunset on the oasis with a trophy right next to him, but there has been a lot of good runs in this class. Adam Weber has four top-fives and six top-tens on the season, and he's been close to winning a couple times, but a flat tire, and a last corner pass has kept him out of victory lane. Monty Nordyke has also claimed four top-fives and six top-tens on the year.
