Fifty-three race teams checked into the Thomas County Speedway in Colby, Kansas for another exciting night of NW Kansas IMCA racing! Visiting victory lane were Josh Barnhart in the sport mod, Ted Trumbo in the sport compact, Brady Bencken in the hobby stock, Kyle Pfeifer in the stock car, and Kyle Rohleder in the modified.
The sport mods ran first on the program, they ran two eight-lap heat races won by Josh Barnhart and Brady Bencken. Their fifteen-lap feature started with a front row of Josh Barnhart and Monty Nordyke. Barnhart grabbed the early race and by lap five would pull away from Monty with a big lead. The race single filed out with Carson Lang and Blaine Walt making runs to third and fourth place but not being able to advance further. Josh Barnhart ran away with the victory, his first win of the season. Second was Monty Nordyke, third was Carson Lang, fourth was Blaine Walt, and fifth was Brady Bencken. Hard charger in the class was Blaine Walt who gained four spots. Other nice runs included Carson Lang, Brady Bencken and Jeff Hunter all up two spots each.
The sport compacts ran second on the program, they ran one six-lap heat race won by Kyle Mortensen who debuted a new car. Their twelve-lap feature started with a front row of Tyson Plumisto and Chase Cloe. A three wide battle broke out for the race lead quickly as Chase Cloe led the first lap, lap two saw Kyle Mortensen take the lead in turns one and two. Brock Leibhart grabbed the second position, and Ted Trumbo moved up to third. Lap five saw Ted Trumbo use the very high side of the track to take the lead. Trumbo ran off to pick up his second win of the season, after winning in Colby on May 24th. Second was Kyle Mortensen, third was Brock Leibhart, fourth was Chase Cloe, fifth was Tyson Plumisto and Jason Colby finished sixth to round out the cars that finished. Hard chargers in the class were Ted Trumbo, Kyle Mortensen and Brock Leibhart who all gained two spots each.
The hobby stocks were third on the program, they ran two eight-lap heat races won by Brady Bencken and Morgan Olmstead. Their fifteen-lap feature started with a front row of Mike Kennedy and Austin Janousek. Kennedy got the early jump, but quickly Brady Bencken found himself passing for the lead in turn four. Bencken led the feature's first green flag until lap ten when Brayden Hilzer went for a spin in turns three and four. Bencken led the restart and despite trying multiple lines, Trent Matson could not run him down. Brady Bencken picked up win number one of the season. Second was Trent Matson, third was Bret Conness, fourth was Mitchell Fischer and fifth was Austin Janousek. Hard charger in the class was Brady Bencken who gained five spots en-route to his win. Other nice runs included Trent Matson, Cash Tubbs and Brayden Hilzer all gaining two spots each.
The stock cars were fourth on the program, they ran one eight-lap heat race which saw a thrilling battle between Wheat Lippelman, and Jeff Tubbs, with Lippelman picking up the win. Their fifteen-lap feature started with a front row of Wheat Lippelman and Doug Holzmeister. The duo ran side-by-side for the bulk of lap one with Holzmeister leading at the line. Holzmeister led the first six laps despite heavy challenges from Jeff Tubbs and Kyle Pfeifer. On lap seven Pfeifer gained the race lead, meanwhile Jason Rogers charged to second late in the feature. Kyle Pfeifer went on to grab win number six of his season. Second was Jason Rogers, third was Tathan Burkhart, fourth was Doug Holzmeister, and fifth was Jeff Tubbs. Hard chargers in the event were Kyle Pfeifer and Jason Rogers who both gained four spots each.
The modifieds closed out the program, they ran two eight-lap heat races won by Dakota Sproul and Kyle Rohleder. Their twenty-lap feature started with a front row of Don and Trevor Geist. The initial start was a rough one as a parking lot broke out down the backstretch, everyone made it through except for one car as Nick Link could not fire back off and continue. Kyle Rohleder and Trevor Geist restarted the field, and quickly the two went separate ways as Rohleder stormed away with the lead and Geist started falling through the field. Quickly Dylan Sherfick started making ground up on the bottom side as he found himself in second place. Sherfick could not run down Rohleder however, as Rohleder ran a perfect race to pick up race win number four of his season. Second was Dylan Sherfick, third was Brett Berry, fourth was Eddie Belec and fifth was Dakota Sproul. Hard chargers in the event were Brett Berry and Drew Miller who gained four spots each. Other nice runs included Dylan Sherfick up three spots, Kyle Rohleder, Eddie Belec, Dominic Ursetta, and Anthony Rhoades all gained two spots each.
